Very big surprise. I did not expect much of the this wine and was very pleasantly surprised. Much bigger than I anticipated with great color, nice nose and clean, full flavor. I bought this at release for $26 and cellard since then. I should have bought a whole lot more.

Great showing. This has really put on weight in the 17 years since its release. Still a fine dark red, beautiful secondary nose with depth, a saccharine quality I liken to cotton candy, dark cherries and just a whiff of finely integrated old wood. Plush and smooth on the palate with just a fine edge of tannin lending support. Good acidity also adding life and slight structure. Would like to know the exact cepage but I imagine merlot is the predominant grape. I find that about 30% cabernet sauvignon is all it takes to make an excellent claret on the left bank, at least for my tastes. This would grace any table and can easily keep another five-ten years with good storage.

12.5% alcohol. Great color on this wine. Full red with just a bit of lightening at the edge of the glass. Pretty nose of tobacco and cedar and lighter black fruits. In the mouth, strikingly elegant for St. Estephe. Perhaps not the same concentration of the best examples from the vintage, but this is a really nice, easy-drinking wine at peak. B+/A-

Same notes from a year ago -- easy drinking mature bordeaux, with earthy black fruit, a hint of red, nice balance and texture.
