Another interesting Barolo, long in the tooth but still with some energy. Nose was best early after opening, rich and still a bit fruity, palate showing lots of brown sugar and leather. Steadily fell apart, after 6 hours oxidized into a portiness that was still ok.

Dinner with the wine group (Millbrae, CA): Light ruby-tawny; aromatic, leafy, red fruited, floral, roses; light bodied, high acidity, balanced alcohol, elegant and lifted throughout, red fruited, some balsamic and soy; medium-plus finish. Really lovely mature Barolo, ready to drink now. 92-93 Day 2: This held up very well in a small 4oz bottle filled to the top.

Stood up for 3 months and carefully decanted off its sediment. Light ruby with a tawny edge; high intensity aromatics with some tamari, some smoke, savory, dried flowers; palate has a wonderful elegant mouthfeel with its light body and smooth, elegant tannins, balanced by fresh high acidity, 13.9% alcohol, more tamari on the palate with a ton of umami complexity, lovely depth of flavor through the midpalate; medium to medium-long finish. A lovely fully mature Barolo with impeccable balance, showing well now and a relatively rare treat for me. 92 4 hours decanted: this lost a bit of its initial character. Now more of a generic aged Nebbiolo. The rare old Nebbiolo that is best right after decanting.

After decanting for 4 hours. A nose of a clearly long aged wine, dried flowers, smoke, a bit of leathery dust. Fruit faded from palate, dusky smoky flavors. Good balance. Interesting older Barolo but this bottle is far beyond its prime.
The colour was very brick and well back from the edge. Most intriguing was the nose; smells like dried flowers and the part of the college library where no one has been in a long while. Very emotive. Supple in the mouth. More dried out than I had hoped for based on the last bottle I tasted this but still not dusty.
