  • One of the last bottles from a case purchased on release. Nice body and darker color. Dark raspberries and minimal barnyard tones. Smooth mature tannins and long finish.

  • This was my last bottle. PnP, but it opened quickly. Notes are totally consistent with prior bottles. A good mix and balance of spicy red fruits and earthiness. Recent bottles are throwing more sediment and displaying a slightly lighter texture and duller color consistent with the aging process. Most likely at peak and can probably drink for another 2-3 years before it fades.

  • Third bottle drank over the last year. This is a bigger, richer, fruit forward style CA Pinot Noir that really requires a brief decant before enjoying. A slightly cloudy, deep ruby colored wine, chalked full of cinnamon / spice, cherry, and raspberry, very noticeable Dr Pepper / cola aromas and flavors, all underscored with an interesting set of emerging earthy components. Dr. Pepper infused finish. Food will enhance this wine. All three bottles to date have been fairly consistent in flavor and style; starting to throw some sediment.

  • brought to dinner at selkirk manor by marty s. we were celebrating keith and jean's 50th wedding anniversary. at the table were myself, pat, keith, jean, sandy and marty. neither of us recalled that we had had this wine together once before until a started doing my homework on CT after dinner. once again, marty and i have diverging opinions about this wine. he finds it to be rustic. i find it to be dominated by forward fruit. lots of ripe red cherry. perhaps some rhubarb. good body but i don't find tannins or acidity to carry forward further development. i would enjoy this wine more if the fruit were toned down a bit. i suspect that with the price he commands, mr. smith is trading on his reputation as a quality cab producer. i respect his statement that he is intentionally making wine to be enjoyed young. but, i think he needs to tweak the formula a bit.
