Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 92.2 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 18 notes)

Tasted by beezer6 on 2/7/2010 & rated 89 points: Definitely a slightly off bottle. Nose was subdued showing fait aromas of medium dark apple cider.
Some yellow bananas and light nuts and caramel also in play.
Palate is immediately effervescent on the tip of the tongue.
Never really gets into that WOW factor category at all. Like I said, the nose was muted and showed a bit of tropical fruit, roasted nuts and vanilla. Not much acidity, just this fuzz that never blew off.
Finish was somewhat complex but fell short in length. Came across to acid driven on the back end. (49 views)

Tasted by mellison on 7/2/2008 & rated 92 points: Another great expression from Kistler. Not quite a Vine Hill but still very good. (768 views)
Tasted by babnik on 4/24/2008 & rated 93 points: Deep golden color. Ripe apple, roasted nuts, popcorn, all balanced perfectly on nice oak and acid. A fantastic wine. (989 views)
Tasted by mellison on 10/26/2007 & rated 92 points: Pretty good chardonnay. Kind of syrupy and more oak then my tastes but enjoyable bottle of wine. (1209 views)
Tasted by mellison on 10/7/2007 & rated 93 points: Good solid effort. Crisp with the hint of apple, melons and pear. Minimal oak and nicely balanced. (1238 views)
Tasted by Rangstrom on 8/9/2007 & rated 92 points: I never been a member of the ABC club, but the early oxidation problem for many Burgundies has limited my purchases the last few years. I'll still pick up some Maconnaise for current consumption (Rijckaert Vire-Clesse can be an incredible buy), but I now look to CA for ones to age. Not that NZ's Kumeu River isn't in the running.

For me, the problem with CA Chardonnay isn't oak, rather unbalanced oak. Tonight's bottle was subjected to 50% new French Oak and went through partial malo, yet still retained a nice balance between creaminess and tart fruits. A seamless wine with ever expanding waves of flavor, good with food and worthy of introspection. I didn't get any Hazelnuts though. (1325 views)

Tasted by Vette Z06 on 2/14/2007 & rated 93 points: Great apple, vanilla Chardonnay! And I am not a white wine guy! (1645 views)
Tasted by AllRed on 3/18/2006 & rated 93 points: Stefanie mentioned she hated Chardonnay, so I took this to dinner with her and Chris at the Anvil Club, and served it double blind. She liked it. Nice golden color. Wonderful aromas of toasty oak, appe and pear. Vanilla, apple, oak and mineral flavors. Lengthy finish. Can't wait to try the Vineyard designated Chards off the mailing list.  Tasted by AllRed on 12/13/2005 & rated 93 points: Golden color. Notes of toasty, smoky oak, along with some butterscotch and vanilla. There's fruit there too, but I couldn't quite place it. Full bodied, with vanilla, pineapple and toast on a lengthy finish. (2334 views)

California Wines (Wine Institute of California)

California is one of the most diverse wine regions in the world, with almost 100 grape varieties grown in almost 10 viticultural areas, including dozens of different microclimates and soil types, as well as a very individualistic set of winemakers, many with international experience, which adds to and deepens that diversity.
