This bottle was either way past its drinking window or was flawed due to poor storage in an earlier part of its life. Previous bottles were quite good and I will see what the last bottle is like one of the days. The nose and palate showed what I describe "stewed prunes", which I associate with being cooked through storage at high temperatures. I have had the wine in well controlled conditions since end of 2010, so it must have happened early. Nevertheless, a few tasters in the monthly wine series determined it to be in their top 3 of the 8 Cabs on the panel. This was because there is still underlying evidence of an excellent fruit backbone in this wine.
Showing better and better this is really a lovely California Cab at a value price. Consistent with prior notes and now better integrated. I think this has legs to live to 2020 or maybe later. The fruit is very prominent and there is a nice latent vanilla coating that follows the wine past the tongue. A 20 - 30 second finish is the reward. Very nice.
