At this level I’m not sure if the terroir actually matters lol.. could be a Vosne, could be a Beaune, whatever it is, it’s a win. On the nose you get this jacked up sweet berry perfume , and then some earth and mushroom, and then some soy sauce - no signs of waning. On the palate the entry is tamed, but the elements build up. Mouth coating, silky and excellent weight for what it is. 👌🏻

This was a revelation for me. I am a long-time fan of this producer (I've consumed her wines up and down the vineyard heirarchy over many vintages, from 1990 forward), but I have never tried her 'Aux Lavières'. Perfect color for a wine of its age (deep red, with light bricking). The nose is classic (earthy, beetroot). More of the same on the palate, and a very, very long finish. Power without weight here. Lots of sediment (which seems to be a hallmark of minimal intervention during vinification). It sounds delusional, but if blinded, I would have placed my bet on Grand Cru (I understand that this is a villages vineyard). I have no idea how Lalou works her magic, but I wish that I had cases of this so that I could pull a cork now and again when I want to show a friend the wonders of Burgundy. This was worth the price of admission, and will still be great twenty years from now. Awesome.

This Burg came ready to party. At the Maude Burgundy dinner series. Lovely Leroy nose, flowers and perfume, our group agreed we could all live in there. Much more Vosne-like than Nuits (actually more Beaune than Nuits), medium-light body, tertiary yet clean, in an absolutely perfect place.

Dried rose petals and, a bit of a musty smell but not TCA or Brett - and thankfully not enough to throw off the lovely aroma. This pristinely stored '96 needs some time to stretch its legs and breathe, in time the funk blew off.
Palate is elegant, soft, with hoisin, tea, and cinnamon - more Vosne than Nuits. Light on its feet, medium color slight bricking, and medium tannin. What a treat, and it's just getting going. Finish is red and black fruit, a touch of menthol. Mid palate is full despite light weight of the wine. In the final analysis, this is a very full and complete Burgundy. Villages in name only.

Next to the 2000 Rouget Ech, this seemed thin, tight and green. Didn't improve on day 2. Context is everything.
