Last bottle in a case. Saved this one after drinking all the rest in 2010-2011, way too early. I like how this wine's identity has evolved from hot toasted oak into some nice secondary aroma and flavor characteristics. Some green herbs, even olives, plus plenty of dark fruit, cassis, currant, plums, tobacco and leather. The savory notes have really emerged since a few years ago. Still, I found this too oaky (for my taste) and the harsh tannins, though mellowed to some degree, still overwhelm the finish. Actually went much better with savory, garlicy food. Drink now - 2020.
Popped and poured through a vinturi; medium garnet in colour with some light garnet-ruby on the rim. Red berries, ripe red cherries, and some currants on the nose and am not getting any much of that menthol I detected from my 2011 tn. After letting it sit for half an hour in the glass, the palate's getting loads of cassis, black fruits, dark plums with a slight hint of dark tobacco; tannins are detected but not too prevalent. Medium bodied with a medium finish. This has turned out to be pretty good from 4 years ago.
