  • I bought this bottle at Park Avenue Liquor Store in Manhattan. The medium-bodied wine was medium garnet in colour and offered red fruit, red cherry, strawberry, dried cranberries, intense sous bois notes, spices, plum, tobacco, a hint of coffee and mild ethereal notes on the nose and palate, with medium-plus acidity, mostly resolved tannin and good length of the slightly drying and slightly bitter finish. The wine was crunchy and quite intense on the palate at first, but became more balanced and developed nice old-age sweetness over night.

  • Cellared since release. Quite correct with red cherry fruit, slight spice, medium weight. 1995 hardness fully resolved. This was a delightful wine.

  • Brick color throughout. The wine is passable but light, weak. Some strawberry flavor, enjoyable, nothing special.

  • Bricking at the edge, with some orange throughout. Strawberries, black cherries, licorice and cedar in the long flavor. Good mid- and upper palate length. Warm resolved tannins with nice acidity backing it up. A fresh, flavorful Griottes. -JBL

  • Another nice showing for this old favorite, with lots of those savory roasted cherries complemented by some nice aromatic complexity in the form of baking spices and caramel. This bottle still seems to be a little bit young somehow, as it improved so much during the hours it was open, suggesting it still had gobs of life ahead. Not quite on the Richebourg-La Tache level (also had a 1998 Richebourg from Denis Mugneret that was the WOTN), but an excellent Grand Cru nevertheless. Drink or hold.
