Somewhat ripe, but nevertheless well balanced. Cherry, herb and earth in the nose. Moderately rich mouth feel. Decent finish. Could use a touch more acidity, but can't complain. Showed best at what I would guess was about 62F. Feel this wine still has many years left to it. Overall a pretty nice wine, and better than I would have expected for the vintage.

Opened 1/2 hr before dinner but it needs more time than that. Medium bodied St. Joseph with nice acidity to pair well with sautéed port chops with dijon and sautéed spinach. Nose of cherry, tobacco, earth and fallen apples. Nice integrated flavors of bright cherry, tobacco leaf, soil, and spiced apple cider. Wine is surprisingly young - I would not open for another 3+ years.

A St. Joseph from the torrid 2003 vintage that while having fully ripe flavors displays some of the "hot rubber", "asphalt" tonal notes I find in a lot of hot vintage wines, or in wines from very hot areas (like in the hottest areas of Spain). With food it was a decent glass of wine but not one I'd go to for sipping by itself.

(J.L. Chave Sélection St. Joseph Offerus) Opaque purple red violet color; herbs, red plum, bay leaf nose; tart red plum, bay leaf, herbal palate; medium finish
(J.L. Chave Sélection St. Joseph Offerus) Very appealing nose of boysenberry and blackberry jam on toast; big, w/firm tannins and finely grained black fruit, medium finish (needs time but likely to be beautiful in a few years) 92 pts

Very ripe red fruits, light roasted notes, there’s surprising acid for vintage but seems a bit unintegrated. Others liked more than I did. B-/C+
