Deep into its 40s this Stags Leap cab opens up beautifully with a quick adouze. Blue fruit, minerall, leather and stone notes on the palate. This bottle had a bit of brett to blow off, but within an hour or so it delivered a magnificent fresh fruit characteristic of the AVA. Great bottle.

Very good at this stage with soft blueberry, cassis and other dark fruit, cedar and mineral. Dark tannins held together by a good dose of acidity. Terroir of Stags Leap is there, but I have seem more vivid examples.

I wondered if this might be lightly corked, but others didn’t see it. Regardless, its character seemed obvious - a stern, dark, cool, powerful wine mainly comprise of cedar and black fruit, still amazingly tannic on the palate. If correct, 89-90 — but it may come good with time.

Leather, underwood, dark fruit, chocolate, black pepper, and plums on the nose. Nice acidity with more leather, some cassis, dark berries, and tobacco on the palate. Quite long on the finish. Fully resolved tannins, but quite a bit of fruit left. Completely mature and drinking amazingly right now, not at all over the hill.

Served double blind. Quite clearly an older and classic Napa Cab. Terrific aromatics of dried plum, cedar, cigar box and bell pepper. The fruit is still sweet and holding quite well. I guessed this was from the 80s. Impressive.
