Scott Paul and De Ponte: Quite a bit of dark fruit on the nose. In general, very forward, with some light oak and hot wood ash. Wow, very pleasing body, almost silky, with nice soft fruit. The palate is all about the texture, though. Tannins build several seconds later, very light, some red fruits hold, and it's very pretty but quite tight today. Could open up beautifully in just a couple years.

Tasting at Scott Paul and Tyrus Evan (Carlton, OR): Deep purple-red color. Flamboyant nose of red earth, ripe berries and some wood. Very forward on the palate with nice fruit and acidity. Much more of a crowd-pleaser than I expected.

Deep purple red. Nose of ripe cherries. On the palate more towards raspberries. Smooth tannins, well balanced. Delicious. A wine for contemplation!
