Super interesting. Montille's 95s are killer. This had beef blood and iron to start. Got even better with air. More subtle and nuanced. With time came bright red fruits, spices and some earth notes. The nose got better and better with air and palate more complex. Old Montille just rocks.

Knock-out wine. Tertiary notes on the nose, dusty fruit, mushrooms, earth. Soft as a pillow on the palate, delicate, refined garden fruit (strawberry perhaps), sous-bois. Understated, yet expressive and persistant. A real treat, and a wine that will easily keep for another 5-10 years.

Tale of two sides for me on this wine. The nose was outstanding - dark fruit, red berries, spice, violets. And the nose just gave it to you - very persistent out of the glass. The palate was austere and somewhat unforgiving. I've had this experience with some 95s where the wines are just tough as nails. May need more time. Plenty of structure here to age. Just needs to soften and open up. Drank over 3 hours and wine was consistent. Palate 91, nose 93. Going with 92.

I guess I must be really lucky with Hubert bottles. This is absolutely wonderful, great black cherry and earthiness dominated on the nose and palate, but much more lift that I expected and delicate fruit and the crystalline quality I have experienced a few times with older Burgundies.Tannins so soft with just a tiny bit of fine sediment. I did not expect this experience in a Pommard, but Hubert is a master. This bottle was at peak, but I would guess that others will show well or decent depending on storage for 5-10 more years.

(de Montille Pommard Les Rugiens) Medium colour with just a hint of amber. This is a sniffer’s wine, subtle and complex - only slowly widening and becoming softer. This is also rather understated in the mouth; it has good freshness, nice transparency - again a subtle complexity - but you have to work hard to find all these elements. Long with a faint diminuendo. You would easily lose this in a large tasting.
