  • Tuesday at the Papies (The Papies, London): Opened and let to breath for like 30mins. Very nice but mild nose. probably the highlight of the wine. Well round and drinks ok however we were split as to whether this wine has more to give in the future. Would have expected some more complexity on palate. Good overall but not great.

  • Whoosh. Beefy, funky, stinky, dank and muscular. Not sure this will ever pull all its elements together but it would sure be interesting to find out. At the moment however it is, well, something you want to split with 3 or 4 other people. One glass is enough. The lack of depth or real complexity beyond the sheer array of stuff in the wine is a concern. It's good but not really special.

  • Slightly off putting nose of stems and green peppers then tending towards the darker end of the spectrum--with almost a plummy note and some funk that is certainly not charming. Attack is black raspberry and plum followed by a hollow mid palate and some distinctly under ripe green tannins on the finish. Astringency to spare and these won't dissipate. I don't know what Alan Meadows tasted but I'd be surprised if this was it. One more bottle of this stuff and I probably waited three years too long on the drinkability window. If you have any, drink it now because it is going downhill fast.

  • Deep black ruby color, more like a Northern Rhone than a burg. The nose has a note of sous bois, but is dominated by stewwed black fruits (prunes?). Not sure if this wine has closed down, or just was never open but for a 2000 it is giving me surprising little. The palate is hard more typical of a 98, not silky or charming in any way. I detect notes of green, underripe stems on the palate. The mid palate is thin, with a rather hollow middle. The finish disapates quickly. Very disappointing, I'll try the 2nd half tomorrow and see if it opens up at all.
