2021 Athens Wine Event , An event to make up for the last 2 years (Spondi , Athens): Tasted blind, placed more of a cab sauv than a pure merlot. Even after 3 hours of decanting the wine was not at full stride and we wonder if it will ever be or it will just be lacking that expected singing nose that one expects . The fact that was revealed to be a Masseto only made things worse for us… 92?

Initial nose was outstanding, definitely like a right bank bordeaux. After decanting 2 hours, it put on a huge amount of fruit and sweetness and pretty over the top. Chilled it down to 50° and still just way way way too sweet. Keep this one another ++five years. The initial tannins were marvellous before decanting. It’s like this wine did a 180 and went from fabulous to flabulous :( Score based on initial tasting, a solid 95 points but blended it to 91 based on how it performed after decanting. Will leave rest of it until tomorrow and see what happens.

[Blind] Dark chocolate and cacao. Pine resin. Quite showy. Palate is young, punchy, and still very lush. Easily mistaken for right bank Bordeaux as there was less of that dry Italian tannin or rough edge although it is still grippy. 93 - 94.
