Winos' excellent adventure in France; 6/22/2017-6/27/2017 (All over France): Still another humbling experience, but I get used to it. The clue this time is a difficult vintage. This confuses me as the nose is incredible. Perfectly mature nose displaying subtle yet incredibly sweet red fruits, strawberry and raspberry, apricot, sauteed porcini, strong black truffle, light caramel, strong sous bois, grilled A-5 and a hint of cola. Absolutely perfect palate, almost weightless and thirst quenching. I am initially thinking the 62 or 71 but this is from a poor vintage. So may be something from the 60s. M. Noblet tells us that it is from the 60s. I make an educated guess and softly murmur ’65. Kelly also mentions ’65. We are correct! This has to be either La Tache or Romanee Conti. It is the 65 Romanee Conti. I am speechless. Incredibly wine!

For a difficult year this was engaging and ethereal. It smelt of porcini mushroom, sous bois, roasted meats and white flowers. It was so delicate in the mouth with floral notes and a light nuttiness. There was plenty of mineral and the harmony of the wine was terrific.

Light but fine - this is after all a Romanée-Conti! The nose was fresh and spicy, on the palate this is mature but a bit lean. This wine had come from the Domaine directly and had been reconditioned, which is almost always a bad sign.

Anazing nose of mushrooms, truffles, very perfumed. Just a bit slim at the end. Memorable wine, at the domaine.
