decent fill level at about 4 cm. Cork in ok condition. Slightly cloudy and very pale (tawny) in the glass. The wine was dominated by acidity, a weedy character and an oxidative character; not a lot of redeeming qualities. My first 72 Red Burgundy and most likely my last; not even close to 1971

1972 Bordeaux horizontal tasting: When I opened this I had my doubts based on some moldy notes from the cork on the nose, by the time we got to it, this was however superb. First wine of first flight and from the first sip it was clear that this would likely be WOTN. Almost transparent in the glass with a pale ruby. Beautiful nose with very aromatic red fruit and earthy notes, light on the wonderful palate, no tannins whatsoever. Long finish. Wow - I have a few more of these and am looking forward to those.

Bought a few bottles recently and sorted out two that did not look good. Both were very light with big chunks of sediment floating around, seemingly the kind of strange separation of liquid and extract on the way, which I have seen a few times in older wines. Pnp and as I poured a little into the glass, I was convinced this would go down the drain. Incredibly light color, a touch of browning but completely transparent. But the big surprise as I taste this: sweet red fruit, very light, a touch of earth and tea, alcohol must be 10-11%, beautiful wine. Held up well in the open bottle over almost an hour it took us to drink the wine. Even my wife who does not like Burgundy was fine with this while commenting that this tasted like grape juice...

Really very pale – mahogany, just touched with red. Light and spicy, and somewhat volatile. Something rather austere, perhaps tomatoey to it. Firm and acidic, but lacks fruit in the mouth. Definitely a caramelised tomato edge to it, but no depth of flavour. Clinging on by its fingernails, and just about enjoyable. 2+

light and washed out to look at and should have had a nil by mouth sticker on it as it was bitter and just god awful.
