The wines of of Comtes Lafon, with James Handford MW (Handford Wines, London): 2001 , much like 2007, proved to be an excellent white wine vintage. Shows some colour which makes the correct opening salvo for the rich wine , from nose to palate, that follows. A lot of fruit here, lush, mineral and very balanced. Complex and with a good 2 minute finish. We are talking proper meursault here! 94+
Genevrieres is proving to be one of or favourite terroirs. We would suggest the wines of Bouchard which with along with les perrieres are our greatest find in the appellation vs price.
Somewhat muted/closed on the nose, but very expansive/explosive in the mouth. Marvelous wine, just wish it was easier to find Lafon wines. One of my favorite Mersaults to date...at the same time, I opened this too early. This will be some wine in 5 years or so.
Night 2, this is gaining considerable weight on the palate and smoothing out. Still not yielding a ton on the nose, some citrus, crushed stone. Very solid effort.

(Lafon Meursault Genevrieres) We began with a trio of Genevrieres, and the 2001 Lafon Meursault Genevrieres was clean and fresh with great citrus, dust and spice in its nose, along with excellent minerality and citricity. It had that beefy 2001 edge but was still cut. The palate was round and softer than I expected, still pleasant but easy. There was good hidden acidity here
