Very drinkable now but on the decline and good window into the past.
Forty four years is a long time, almost two generations. I feel it is important to reflect on this as one assesses this wine. 79 was not a great vintage, it was average but not poor and for this wine to last this long is a great testament to the producer.
Minimal fruit left, what was left was cedar, dried shiitake, and peppery notes. The core was surprisingly sound consisting of fine tannin, delicate structure and refinement, bordering on being thin. Long finish.
Drink asap!

Healthy, deep red. Very rustic nose and very traditional Bordeaux feel. Typical 1979 in that it is not silky smooth, definitely requires food but still very enjoyable, healthy and good weight and length. Better than expected.

This is a wine tasted at 42 yrs of age. It wasnt vinegar but was drinkable. Fruit was far gone soft on the palate. Nose was moldy but wore off. In all if into old wines you need to taste this.

BBQ on a friend's terrace. Brief notes. Medium garnet colour. Red fruit, strawberry, red cherry, cedar, porcini, spices, cinnamon and some liquorice, all built around a mineral core, with good acidity, fully resolved tannin and very good length. Very harmonious and quite pleasant. The wine benefited from aeration and drank better than the 1981 Mouton today.
