Puligny Whites & Vosne-Romanée Reds (Wo Peng): Tasted blind. Appearance is clear, pale intensity, garnet colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of sweet dark cherries, blackberries, fruit pastilles, and some earthy notes. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol, medium tannins, medium body. Pronounced flavour intensity, with flavours of sweet dark cherries, blackberries, fruit pastilles, earth, and spice. Long finish. Extremely well balanced wine. Very good quality. Drinking well now, and can still develop over the next 5 years.

Tasted blind, this was in no way identifiable as a 2003. Looks like what I've been reading about the vintage is indeed true. The wines are surprisingly shedding their flabbiness. The Chaumes is drinking nicely now with unmistakable soil and spice elements of Vosne. Very balanced to be frank. This is not a large scale wine but a friendly and unpretentious Vosne 1er.
