Taste: rather much vanilla, also rather good fruit, with spices. After having drunk also the merlot of this series and of the same year within the last two weeks, I conclude, that these wines lean to heavily on the vanilla. I am not sure whether this is an effect of the aging of these wines or of the development in my own taste. 83.

This Casillero del Diablo Concha y Toro line usually has very good wines considering price and distribution. This Shiraz continues this tradition, however with some caveats. I like my Shiraz big. This Shiraz is, however, quite medium bodied, however varietally correct. Nice nose of black fruits, perhaps with some coffee thrown in after a while. There is, however, some alcohol on the nose. Taste-wise, very much similar to the nose. Good tannins for a rather young wine. Fruit is slightly tart and bitter. My big problem here is that I find it too thin, specially compared to South Africa and Australia.

Taste: fruit, chocolate, spices and tannin, nicely smooth and very harmoniously going together in an agreeable complexity and with a rather long finish. The taste stayed for a couple of hours in my mind. Drink now. Good QPR with 4,50 Euro! 85.

Reminds me of Aussie shiraz when American oak was more heavily used - this has a lot of oak influence but decent fruit to go with it.
