  • Inky black. Full throttle Shiraz, some of the sweetness has mellowed, leaving some meaty gamey, bacony flavors. There is plenty of fruit, tannin, and acidity to merit further aging.

  • nice enough bottle/drink, but not worth the $$ if it doesn't develop significantly. I've had bottle variation issues with other vintages, so hoping this is another example of that OR it's just in a shutdown/dumb phase. 06' Branson Coach House Shiraz walked all over this and then some....but I'll remain optimistic...

  • Powerful, ripe, dark-fruited, smoky. Nice hint of olives on the nose. A little out of balance due to the alcohol and some slight VA.

  • Phew! Poured second to last at the tasting (behind Alban Syrah) and rightly so. This stuff is HUGE! Gobs of fresh berry, plum, currant, meat, spice, and polish mingle on the palate while the nose is incredibly aggressive (and a touch boozy). Very pleasant wine, it had been open for something like 30 hours and still could have used more air. I like big Syrah as much as the next guy, but it's hard to know what to do with wines like these; how to pair with food, serve in a lineup etc. Good, but not sure I could drink the whole bottle (and definitely wouldn't want to drive later!).

  • This is a massive syrah to say the least, with layers of dense concentrated black and blue fruits along with olive, mineral, licorice, espresso and some mesquite notes to name a few. Full-bodied with big round tannins and a gorgeous structure leading to the mouth-coating finish. Another rockstar of a wine from Charles Smith. (Drink 2012-2030) - May, 2012. (JD)
