Dinner at Home; 2/26/2015-2/27/2015 (Fremont, CA): Medium ruby color with age-appropriate bricking; nose has a lot of funk, very similar to previous bottles which I thought might be flawed... It's just the style and blows off after a while, underlying red fruit, some spice; palate is medium bodied, nice acidity, red fruit, clean; finish is medium length. Despite the initial funkiness, very nice. 86-88
Opened 5 hours before serving, decanted 2.5 hours. Evolved beautifully, opening up and shedding a hint of mustiness that existed when first opened. A good (not spectacular) expression of Brunello. Served with osso buco. Paired very well. Definitely drinking well now and should hold for another couple of years at least.
Much lighter weight than I would have expected. Beautiful dark garnet color, pleasant aromatics, nice balance in the mouth, but fruit a bit muted, and lacking depth and structure. Not a stand out for 97.
