PnP'd, with one resounding result... Minerality. All the minerals (for a red wine). Some fruit left on the initial attack, but it immediately gives way to savoriness and the aforementioned min. er. al. s. Alcohol and tannins in check. Interesting on its own for sure, but seems best with food. Not sure where this will go, and glad I drank this one today.

Super funky nose of olive, plums, manure, licorice. I don't really know how to describe it. Tastes pretty funky too. The fruit is still there, mostly plummy notes. There's a meaty, gamey quality to it that is quite pronounced. I also notice a metallic taste on the finish. Compared to 2010 and 2012 In the Rocks and that I opened recently this is by far the funkiest of the bunch and the most pronounced example of "rocks funk" I've experienced so far. This wine is not as balanced or satisfying as the other vintages I've tried but a fun experience nonetheless. I think I have a better idea of what the rocks funk is now and will be able to pick it out more clearly as I try more wines from this region. I don't think it's too old but I wouldn't wait any longer either.

Clear, deep garnet with significant meniscus and high viscosity N - Plum, olive, smoked meats, bacon, black currant and blueberry. P - Plum and lots of it, along with meats and olive. Delicious. Finish is shortening a bit and has a metallic tinge at points.

This was one of the first Reynvaans we ever tasted, about eight years ago, and we became instant fans. We love Cayuse and this is out of the same mold, with great Northern Rhone characteristics of smoke, leather, blackberries, earth, all perfectly blended in the nose and on the palate. Very viscous and mouth-coating, full-bodied but smooth and balanced. Just a bit of tannin and some heat on the aftertaste but just about perfect, and perfectly ready. It has now developed the slightest browning at the edges and slight translucency, but it hasn't lost any of its fruit. Time to drink, though. Ric

(Reynvaan Family Vineyards In The Rocks Syrah Walla Walla Valley) Outrageous aromatics of jerky, black olive juice, earth, and high-toned floral notes. An intense - extremely intense - flavor profile with a richly textured mouthfeel. Capped off by an extremely long finish. A huge leap forward from last year’s offering. 92% Syrah co-fermented with 6.5% Viognier and 1.5% Marsanne. 13.2% alcohol. Approximately 450 cases produced.
(Reynvaan Family Vineyards In the Rocks Barrel Sample WWV) A stinky, meaty, gamey, nose that is also marked by violets. More fleshed out along the palate than the 2007. The additional age of the vines – even at one year – shows on this wine that is much more rich on the palate. Syrah co-fermented with 6% Viognier along with a splash of Marsanne. Approximately 450 cases produced. To be released 2010.
