Inky dark ruby, purple with blackberry nose. Dry flinty with tart berry, roast beef and some funky earth, olive brine is an apt descriptor. Full body without being jammy, tannins are subdued and well integrated. Getting some blood oranges on night two.
One of the highlights from a QPR ($25 or less) themed tasting event. One of the more unique and interesting wines on the table. The aromas and flavors were a mixture of purple/black fruits along with more savory suggestions of meat, pepper, and earth. Fuller bodied, dense, rugged, coarse, and structured (at least compared to the other reds on the table) with prominent tannin gripping the back end.
Brought to a friends. Opened at 4 didn't get around to this until 7:30 or 8 pm. Out of the gate this exhibited the olive brine, cured meats, smokiness and savory dark fruits but towards the end of the night it lost some of its luster on the palate. Should have gone PnP but still always a treat to pop one of these.
