The last glass, poured from a decanter 4 hours after opening the bottle, was by far the best. Less rustic than previous bottles, this is still a tight wine that really needs air to open up. The fruit is dark toned, towards the brown end of the spectrum and there's marks of tobacco, black olives and meat. A serious wine, by no means heavy, just very complex, one that challenges the mind. Will certainly keep and may even improve with more cellar time.
After the 98, this is not rustic at all. Not as big a wine, medium weight, not quite as much complexity as the 98, but this is seamless, at a perfect age, old fashioned but now just a glass and nose of ripe old berry fruit, slightly confit. Soft and ripe, delicious.
Needs a couple of hours in a decanter before it starts to blossom, but then it does indeed blossom. This is not an easy wine, quite complex palate of dark, slightly bitter fruit, leather, tobacco and salt. Rustic, genuine wine, just great.
