Community Tasting Notes (1)

  • Visiting the winery, I had a nice conversation with Vince. I merely mentioned that I would someday like to try one of his old Petite's from the '80s someday to see how they evolve, and Vincent said let's go the the cellar and find one. Vince found a 375 from 1985 all covered with dust; his last bottle of Petite Sirah from the 80's. He wanted to pop it so I could get my wish- what a generous man!

The uleage on the bottle was extremely low- I wasn't expecting much. The cork was in good shape, however, and out it went. In the glass it had an earthy and nutty sherry like nose and a fairly light body. The fruit was either hiding or gone- difficult to say. I kept it in the glass for 15 minutes and tried again- the wine was opening up and the black fruit began to show. It became an enjoyable old wine.

All in all the wine was enjoyable but way past it's prime. Coming from a small bottle and the low uleage impacted the wine as well. The fun was in the experience.
