Salil does Chicago 3; 4/6/2017-4/8/2017 (Chicago, IL): #41-77, 9.5% abv. Sadly, this bottle seemed really dried out. There was mostly a husk of acid left, and while air seemed to make this get better, it never really perked up.

Nothing like Chicago hospitality...; 4/6/2016-4/10/2016: This showed nicely despite a terrible cork (see Adrian's note) - a deep gold colour suggesting something very advanced, but the fruit here is still very fresh and augmented with an array of mature smoky, petrol, honeycomb, and floral notes. A bit sweeter than many old style Kabinett - this feels more like a Spätlese in its weight and intensity, but the balance is excellent, even though it's a touch thin on the back end.

Salil does Chicago 2; 4/6/2016-4/10/2016 (Chicago, IL): #41-76, 9.5% abv. The cork gave out the moment I touched it with the corkscrew, so we were all a bit worried about this bottle. It came out very golden in colour, but it was clearly not dead, although there was obviously a touch of oxidation there. Plenty of petrol on the nose. The palate shows a little bit more advanced than the nose, and although there's a little touch of sweetness, this is more of an acidic bottle, though that might be because of the faulty cork. A shame -- a recently drank 1973 JJ Pruem Kabinett made it clear the potential that these wines had, and I'm thinking the shoddy cork may have contributed to the relatively poor showing.

Rare Wine Dinners: Bordeaux 1926-1975 (Bentley Restaurant, private dining room): Decanted 1 hour. The nose has lychee, mineral, stone and slate. The palate very fine. Refined. Slightly sweet, with honey notes. On the finish, there's a touch of mustiness or wet cardboard. It seems to blow off after a few minutes.
