Served double blind at tonight's wine group dinner at Two Chefs. Almost everyone had trouble IDing this as a Bordeaux and frankly I was surprised (but then I knew what it was). And I know this goes opposite of what other CT tasters have said, but the overwhelming consensus of the group - all very experienced tasters -- was that this wine has some good years ahead of it. I've got two more bottles in my cellar, so we'll see. Parker's notes (in 1999) said "this wine will be much more controversial than I had anticipated," and I believe he might be right. His broad window of maturity is 2007-2020. He also said, FWIW, that this was the most concentrated wine produced in Pomerol in 1996.
Tim's Housewarming (Bishan): Tasted blind. Poured into decanter and drank over 2+ hours. Appearance is clear, deep intensity, garnet colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of earth, soya sauce, mushrooms, minerality, black tea leaves. Developed. On the palate, dry, medium+ acidity, medium alcohol, smooth medium+ tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of blackberries, black plums, prunes, leather, earth, mushrooms, black tea leaves. Long finish. Good quality. Was probably better a few years ago. The fruit is starting to dry up now. Drink up soon.
Dégustation GEEU chez nous (Mouline, Redigaffi, Rousseau...) (Bernex): Bouteille et bouchon en parfaite condition. Into neck. Non carafé. Cette bouteille était hors thème de dégustation. Couleur violine, encore brillante.
Very dark ruby, nearly opaque - must be a Parker wine. Sure enough, first sniff and it's all sur maturite, with prunes, raisins and some soil emerging after swirling. Enters clumsily, with low-ish acids, then swells up, immediately, as it makes its power statement. Some might say prodigious, others might say oafish and sappy. Either way, this is far from ready. The finish is generous, long, but really there's no finesse to be found at this stage. HOLD. Thru 2032. Label says 12,5% abv.
