  • 2000 Rene Engel Clos Vougeot Grand Cru

EYE: Rubin dark red - clean and clear (5).
NOSE: Basil and tomato juice. A bit like filling in Italian homemade pizza :) Herbs and spices. Grows with air. Large. (14).
MOUTH: Fresh delicious fruit. And here I am actually blank on what makes this so insainly good. It just is. It has this Xfactor that I cant put words on. (19).

This can not be described with words other than wow, ohmy and AHHH. Sorry, but this is sex in a bottle. (9).

  • Old, clear red color with prominent orange edge. Nose has oranges, herbs, tomato juice, eucalyptus, mint and general gorgeousness. This is just pure magic. Unbelievably fantastic nose, twists and turns all the time. But then you drink, and all hell breaks loose. Incredible fruit and powerful elegance. Difficult to put my finger on what exactly makes this wine stand out, but it is far ahead from all the other wines tasted tonight. The way it grabs a hold of all your senses and lingers minutes after each sip is just breathtaking. One of the best wines tasted ever.

  • Dark red, slight aging in the edges. Nose of sweet ripe forest fruit, wet shrubbery and undergrowth. Palate is elegant and powerful, and really a masterpiece. This gives me seamless tannins, perfectly balanced with remnants of fruit and a strong, powerful finish. I actually enjoyed this one a tad more than the DRC Echezeaux '98 we had the same night. Wonderful and nostalgic stuff. Too bad the world is slowly running out of Engel-bottles.

  • Rustic, powerful but not without elegance. Nose of forest floor, cherries. On the palate herbs, cedar, chocolate, spice, earth.
