Fresh and balanced cabernet with ripe plum, damson, blackberry, gravel and tobacco notes. Grilled herbs and a bit of a sandalwood note. Well pitched fruit and acidity, a nicely made 1992 Napa Cab.
This was the first release from Vineyard 29, and would set the stage for Heidi Barrett to join in 1995 and make every more powerful and layered wines from this site. The terroir shines in this example made in a slightly more old fashioned style.

1992 Retrospective Dinner (New Buffalo, Michigan): Opened by Mark. Never had a wine from this estate before. Another wine which could have passed for a much younger vintage. Medium bodied. Solid red without any bricking. Decanted for an hour before drinking. Notes of charcoal, cassis and dusty red fruit. 90 points.

no formal notes taken. beautifully aged napa cab that is in a perfect drinking window. still have excellent fruit and structure with the aged complexities you expect from a 19-yo cab. drink up. great stuff!

Very poor showing in a vertical of 92-99. This was the groups last ranked wine (8) and a sure disappointment to the event organizer. I can't help to think that this was a bottle flaw, other than the glass was better after 2 hours. (he did not decant except for the '03). We will drink another from the cellar in early October and I will report back at that time. Interesting, all of the wines were light in color, they did not demonstrate the "traditional" cab flavor, except for both the "97 and "98 (#1 Wine for the group). These wines are to be drunk now and not to wait especially when drunk for a dinner party.
