Wine purchased en primeur and stored in a eurocave untouched since purchase in 2002. Cork in perfect condition. Wine colour has retained an impressive darkened ruby red which excited us as we poured. Our excitement quickly waned however with tasking. Acidity dominated in the mouth as fruit diminished dramatically since my previous tasting of 5 years past. Typically refined aromatics and flavours of black fruit in the mouth were clearly present but off balanced against acidity that had the upper hand. This second wine of Margaux was meant for early consumption and that is quite clear.
The wine looks ruby colored. The legs are slow. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like mineral and blackberry. The body is full. The wine has fleshy texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has medium acidity.
Needed about 1h to wake up. Beautiful smell of red fruit, cigar box and forest floor. The smell is reflected in the taste. Very elegant, balanced and with a medium long after taste. Really really good now and no need to wait longer.

(Pavillon Rouge du Château Margaux) Bricking very dark red violet color; lovely, mature, tart cassis, tart currant, blackberry nose; tasty, maturing, tart berry, blackberry, tart currant palate; will go 10 years; medium-plus finish
(Pavillon Rouge du Chateau Margaux Margaux) This is dark and glossy, with a deep core showing good concentration out to a claretty-pink rim. Still showing its youth on the nose, with barrel-derived aromas of toffee and toasted oak which dominate the fruit. Clearly this remains very embryonic. Full and unsurprisingly sweetly creamy on entry, smothered in toasty oak, but with lots of structure beneath this superficial layer. Deep, slightly brawny fruit character, very high quality, with a tannic finish. Still so young, but with great potential.
