13 years in and this $18 CdR Villages is still interesting and tasty. Fruit is almost all gone, but what is left speaks of the earth, black pepper, sage and salt. Nothing off at all in this and was a perfect for a pan roasted pork chop dish. Glad I took a chance on this tonight. Drink now and you will be surprised.

Some 7+ years since my last sampling of this cellar-kept gem, it is REALLY enjoyable. PSPatrick's 9/9/19 notes are spot on, and I cannot add more to his comments other than I scored it a point higher. I have one left which I will have to share with a couple more wine lovers.

The wine was dark garnet in colour and threw some sediment. It had a rather, closed and slightly reduced nose of dark fruit, olive tapenade, spice, black pepper and gamy notes. On the palate, the wine offered ripe dark fruit, black olive, some chocolate, Cappuccino, spices, crushed black pepper and intense liquorice as well as herbal and gamy notes, with an underlying mineral component, good acidity, ripe, well-integrated tannin and superb length. Medium to full, dark, dense and concentrated. Well-balanced. Great value for money!

Consumed over a period of two days, with an initial, extended decant on day one. The wine was dark garnet in colour and threw some sediment. On the nose, the wine showed some reduction on day one, covering red and black fruit, blackberry, olive tapenade, spice and gamy notes. On the palate, the wine offered red and black fruit, blackberry, black olive, soy sauce, spice, black pepper, coffee, liquorice and gamy notes, backed by a good acidic spine, with ripe, well-integrated tannin and good length of the spicy finish. On day one, the medium- to full-bodied wine was ripe, dense and brooding; almost too much of a good think for my preference. On day two, the reductive and gamy notes had disappeared, the palate was now built on intriguing minerality and the wine had become adorably balanced. A terrific Rastaeu and great value for the money!

Decided not to chance letting this go too long. Drank over two days. Consistent with my most recent bottle. Last bottle.
