(Dr. Loosen Riesling Spätlese Ürziger Würzgarten, Mosel) From one of the most distinctive sites in the Mosel valley, this is a benchmark for the region from one of its most storied producers. Nearly colorless in the glass, the wine smells of litchi, ripe pear, and honeysuckle. In the mouth, a wonderfully silky texture melds with bright mandarin-orange, pear, and honeysuckle flavors; a light sweetness; and a crackling mineral undertone that does, true to the vineyard name (which means “spice garden”), yield to a light spiciness. Fantastically balanced, this wine keeps on giving through a long finish. Effortless to drink. Hot Picks
