Starts out stewed and grapey, even a bit leathery, and needs to air out for about a half hour before I stop wondering whether it's just over the hill. Fortunately it freshens up considerably and gets back to the zingy wild berry fruit gamay is famous for along with a strong granite/stony character. A very thick wine, almost gummy in texture, but still has youthful luminosity. Cannot say for sure whether it's better now than it was on release 5 years ago, but it's definitely gotten denser and rounder.

Cherry red in color with earth, flowers and cherry on the nose. Still drinking well, but not a lot of time left. Earth, minerals and cherry on the palate. Nice balance and length.

piercing clarity on the palate, dark red fruits without fruitiness, snappy and superclean finish, the balance here is notable and addictive, not separate elements of fruit and acidity, but a complete whole, lovely lighter-styled beaujolais

(Michel Tête Juliénas Domaine du Clos du Fief) Very dark ruby color; reticent, tart currant nose; tight, tasty, ripe currant, berry, tart red fruit, mineral, sour cherry palate with firm tannins and attenuated finish; needs 3 years; short-medium finish 88+ points (semi-carbonic maceration with a submerged cap and remontage to break up the submerged cap several times a day)
