Good color, no hint of oxidation. Sparse on fruit yet still enjoyable for those who like northern Rhône wines, with acidity holding it together. Drink soon with food.

Tried as part of my Level 3 WSET Course. Easily the most interesting wine tried on Day 2 (covering Bordeaux, Rhone, Southern France, Loire Valley, Germany and Austria). A decent colour – red with tawny hints – there is nothing to guess what is coming. The nose is amazing – hot tar, old leather, violets are balanced by a combination of dark plums and dark and red cherries, with the fruit gaining that balance with time in the glass. While the palate shows development (as you would expect) there is still a certain lightness from fresh red fruits (probably from some carbonic maceration) balancing darker fruits, spices and pepper. The tannins are soft now and well integrated, but there is still a little acid adding lift.

Not as good as I was expecting. Not very open or fruity. Might have been better a few years ago. Decent QPR.

This bottle had reached its end. Great nose and it starts off nice, but then just drops off. No finish.
