What a total suprise! Beautiful red color with a wonderful nose that still made it seem like it was 10-15 years younger than what it was. Palate was equally impressive, still holding good structure and balance. Tasted like a perfectly aged Bordeaux. No hint of raisin. Continued to drink up until the 1.5 hour mark of it being in the glass and it outshone the '83 Pichon Lalande we also had (although I was the only person who felt this way). Would love to have a few more bottles of this to open each year for the next 5 years.
Double decanted 3 hours before serving. This was the best red of the evening. Elegant, complete, and holding its own. This was the best '75 of recent tastings of LLC, VCC, Mouton, Lynch Bages, and Montrose. Of course, all about provenance at this age, but I was really impressed and made me want to take the chance and hold a remaining case for Jo's 50th...A-
Given the age of the wine, I was surprised at the color and cleartiy of the wine. It was decanted before being served and there was only small amount of sediment. The cork was moist and fresh. Most at the those at the table suggested the wine had a bit of a barnyard smell, but I found the wine to be have a spicy aroma. The colour was rudy with just a hint of a tawny edge. The wine was very gentle and smooth and stood up well with no noticable faults.
From magnum. Gorgeous, classic Pauillac aromatics with tons of cedar and tobacco along with dried black fruit and hints of violet. Fully resolved tannins - this is just velvet in the mouth. Not at all tired, this is just in a beautiful spot and far exceeded expectations - perhaps enjoyed even more because it was so unexpected. Amazing value too.
Litt under BN-fill, korken kom ut i to deler. Preg av blyant, søtlig tobakk, gamle møbler, lær, altså en nydelig aroma av moden Bdx. I munnen har den mye av det samme som på duft. Elegant, kompleks, fullmoden og med god lengde, kan man be om mer? Har fremdeles bra med tannin og syre, noe som gjorde at vinen passet perfekt til indrefillet av lam med en kraftig sjysaus, hele poteter og gulerøtter stekt i gåsefett(kolestrolbomber!). Deilig moden Bordeaux dette! Kjøper definitivt mer av denne skulle jeg komme over noen flasker..

(Chateau Pichon-Lalande Pauillac) An obviously mature hue. Amusingly the Pichon-Lalande website suggests this should have been drunk up by 1998. Mature and macerated fruit, with a slightly meaty character, iron-like notes, but fresh, with some tobacco and garden mint greenness. This is holding up well on the palate, whereas I think many wines of this vintage are now dried out, tannic ghosts of their former selves. This still has some flesh, with an impressive creamy roundness to the midpalate. Delicious, and still with a little lick of tannin on the finish. À pointe.
