Mid ruby. Bright and clean but ever so slightly Woody on the attack. Mildly corked I think, though it doesn't get worse, but not does it blow off. Having had good bottles previously, this one is a touch off. Shame.
Pale tawny red. Balsam wood and faded red fruit. Gentle, mellow, subtly sweet fruit, and lovely spice. This persisted and improved for several hours. My favorite of the 3 Franco Español wines tonight and just a beautiful older Rioja.
Mid-shoulder fill. Burnished browning light red color with watery edge. Perfect old Rioja nose with balsam wood, strawberry fruit, and cinnamon. Light to medium weight. Striking remaining sweetness of fruit and tangy acidity. Carressing feel unencumbered by any residual tannin-just pure elegance and gentle harmony. This held up beautifully pouring it directly out of the bottle for a good 2 hours. My word, 3 bottles of this over the past 4 years, basically at 2 year intervals, and each time a wonderful, memorable experience. That is pretty amazing consistency for a 45 year old bottling.
