  • 91: So, about a year and a half later, and this wine has really come into its own. The tannins are still noticeable but they've mellowed into the background. 2006 was such an amazing year for California wines! Dark inky red color, thin slow legs, and a lovely bouquet that hints at a subtle complexity that wasn't as apparent 18 months ago. It's definitely fruit-forward, but there's a hint of volcanic terroir that rounds out the acidity. Paired well with blue cheese steak and buttery mashed potatoes. Really makes me wish I had a third bottle to save for another 18 months just to see where this would go.

  • Deep inky red color, basically opaque with a dark ruby fringe. Not very complex but very drinkable despite some mouth puckering tannins. Dark fruits, minerals, and fairly heavy alcohol. Paired equally well with a spicy chicken gumbo and a chocolate peanut butter cupcake. Cork was showing a bit of deterioration, which is a shame because I'd prefer to keep my other bottle of this cellared for a bit.

  • Dark purple ruby. Nose of over ripe fruit and over ripe cherry and plumb. Also a typical astringency I associate with Sonoma and Calif tempranillo. Initial burst of fruit. Cherry, plumb and choke cherry. Very full and plush mouthfeel - too mushy actually, showing a lack of sophistication. Taste transforms to wood, cedar, grape skin bitter and petrol. Length is very long. Tannins strongest on the front palate.

  • More acidic than I remember. May have been a bad bottle. Will open another soon to confirm.
