Medium-light tawny brown in color with a distinct clear edge. Nose was initially funky with some barnyard notes (brett?) & VA notes which dissipated with extended airing (90 min+) & evolved into a full, forward & aromatic nose of ripe fruit notes of dates, figs & raisins with overtones of toffee, orange peel, burnt coffee, roasted hazelnuts & hints of brown sugar in the background. Medium bodied with a good concentration of balanced & smooth textured, well developed & mature, ripe fruit flavors of dried figs, raisins & dates with caramel, brown sugar & a hint of spices. Long lingering finish with a touch of heat. Although it is somewhat palatable at present, it is well past its drink by date & in decline. An interesting wine which at 47 years of age, drinks more like an old tawny Port rather than a late harvest Zin. Fill was in neck right below the capsule; cork was stained 1/2 up but intact.

This has dropped most of the sweetness, the alcohol is apparent but I still kinda enjoy, tastes like a mature fleshy Zin mixed with a little tawny port. B-
