34th Annual Zinfandel Retrospective (Rich & Dana's): Deep ruby/crimson color. Notes of raspberry liqueur, chocolate, herbs and mint. Develops red fruit, florals and spice qualities as it opens in the glass. Flavors of spicy red fruit, boysenberry, lingonberry and spices. Lengthy finish.
Nice color and nose with pleasing smooth berry on the front end and a considerable length into the back palate. Tanins seem to be well balanced and after just a few minute decant the wine opens and climbs to a new level of enjoyment. This is a very nice wine to enjoy everyday. Without a doubt well deserving a 90 rating by anyone's standards. Nice wine at a very reasonable price, well worth the cost. May be just a little on the young side but I would speculate this will cellar well over the next several years.
I brought this wine to a friend's house to drink during a meeting. It was right on the edge between excellent and outstanding. Dark color, very smooth mouth feel, lots of red fruit and pepper spice. You want to say it was jammy? Go right ahead. Jam has flavor and so does this wine. There was no residual sugar in this wine, although there was a bit of apparent sweetness due to the strong fruit component. Nothing in the wood department, because I think the fruit has pushed the wood to the background. Maybe a tiny bit of vanilla, but only a faint touch. Moderate finish. No astringency, no bitterness, no mouth implosion. I could drink this wine three times a week and still enjoy it.
