This was very nice; very good cork seal; nose was fresh with mint, strawberry, orange peel, anise, floral notes, and hint of tobacco. Really classic and lovely nose. The palate is balanced with good depth, still with structure and nice acidity. Drinking well, but certainly no rush.

open one hour, decanted for three (a fairly substantial gob of sediment after 3 days standing), in the glass for two more; still not totally clear, med red to bright copper rim; super perfumed nose, exotic incense, cherry eau de vie, rose garden; med+ weight; concentrated & soil-tinged red highbush fruit, showing mature, with enough grip & fruit to hold for 5+.
these were under-rated on release locally so a case was $42/btl., 3 bottles over the past two years have been cherry. such a thrilling nose on this tonight.
pork loin chop w/grilled wild loin's mane mushrooms, scarlet runner beans, charred broccoli

Impromptu Barbaresco and Fresh Venison Dinner (New Jersey, USA): After checking my tasting note from 9 years ago I decided to decant this at 11:30am for having at our Impromptu Barbaresco and Venison Dinner from about 4:30-10pm. In the morning right after opening this was very tight and muted though you could detect some underlying elegance with red florals and just hints of earthy cherry. The wine was light to medium garnet with distinct bricking. The wine tasted hard and unyielding until about 6pm with dusty tannins and high acidity. About then it began to open up with the nose being very good but never quite effusive. The palate on the other hand was transformed and the color darkened 3-4 shades with most of the bricking pushed to the very edge. Great length and complexity in an utterly elegant package. Bright cherry, herbal and floral notes, earthy but most interesting to me was the rich, sweet uncooked bacon I got at the peak around 7pm. It was fabulous with the wood fire grilled venison back strap with mashed potatoes, roasted delicata squash and a pomegranate molasses demi-glacé. A truly remarkable combination. Unfortunately this was my last bottle, but this should last easily until its 25th or maybe even 30th birthday in my opinion if you have them stored properly.

(Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco Riserva Rabajà) From magnum - dark red violet color; rich, focused, ripe cherry, berry, dried cherry nose; tight, silky textured, tart cassis, tart cherry palate with firm tannins; needs 10-15 years; long finish
(Produttori Rabaja Barbaresco Riserva) #1 (tie); COLOR-dark; NOSE-an explosive array of red fruit (strawberries and cherries); a little bit of fruit roll-up, but in a good way; this nose is SPECTACULAR; this nose is RIPPING; PALATE-I think that Nebbiolo is THE grape of the next 3 years; this wine is so smooth; so structured; beautiful fruit; great, great balance; what I love is how this wine (and Nebbiolo in general) is both sweet and sour and this is classic sweet and sour and that balance really works for my palate; I love the minerality and saltiness that I get from this wine, but also love the real strawberry jam pie as well; a little leather; a little gaminess; great bitter tannins and then creams me out with half & half and true raspberry jam; GREAT wine I love it; you just don't get this kind of quality for $50 bones; AG-94; ST-92; WS-95; GV-94+

A nice aged wine with secondary notes. Nothing exceptional but I enjoyed.

Surprisingly high acid. Fruit came forward over ~3 hours open. Strong earth notes. Enjoyed with pasta, lamb, and burgers.
