  • A nice aged Barbera. The color shows a lot of bricking/browning. Nice secondary aromas of leather, tar, mint and some red fruits. On the pallet, huge amounts of tabacco. More than I have ever noted in a wine but I enjoyed it. Some soft tart red fruits with a dry, acidic finish. Medium to light bodied. Tannins are resolved. Very enjoyable.

  • Opened 1 1/2 hours before drinking. Fragrant aromas of funky earth and red fruits. Full palate of leather, licorice and spicy apples. Lingering licorice finish. This is a brilliant wine as long as you are acid tolerant (and anybody who isn't probably shouldn't be drinking Barbera). This is just a beautifully made wine, and it's at the top of its game - though the acid is coming more to the forefront, which may mean that it's coming to the end of its peak.

    Unfortunately, this is the last of the lot for me. Anybody fortunate enough to still have a bottle of this should probably plan on opening it within the next few months.

  • Aromas of cherries and loam. Mellow flavors of tart cherries and leather, with a medium finish. Good balance, good acid. I can't agree with the posted drinking window of 2003 - 2007, it's drinking quite nicely here in 2010. Maybe, just maybe, it has lost a step, but I have to believe it's drinking better now than it was in 2003. Well worth the purchase price in the high teens.
    Edit: After an hour open, this is in full bloom. It has definitely NOT lost a step.

  • Got even better than prevoius bottles. Amazing tar and roses flavors, as if it were direclty related to a barolo. Great dark berries and leather and an ongoing finish. Wonderful. I guess I should have save some for later, but given that I've had some Giacosa barberas that started to go at age 6, I was thinking I was stretching it with this 2000.
