After a bad streak of several undrinkable old bottles, this finally gives us something to drink that has a bit of age (then again, everything else was ex-Acker and this came from HDH). This is still far from maturity though and needed a couple of hours in the decanter to really open up, eventually showing layers of cedar, walnut, leather, and tobacco around a core of red and dark fruited flavours that are still incredibly youthful. There's still quite a firm tannic spine here even after 30+ years, though with grilled chicken it's fantastic.
Unbelievably youthful. Cedar, cigar, leather, dried flowers, but also sweet berries, cherries, and plums. Very silky palate, and incredible structure (medium-plus acid and medium tannin). Medium finish. Drink now or hold for many years.
