Took 2 days to open up, strange smell to start with, almost as if it was over the top. Also quite evolved colour, dark yellow, but no browning. Then after two days in an open bottle in the fridge, it came to live with nice complex fresh and flinty nose (none of the typical butter and fatness associated with overseas chardonnay). On the palate it is still quite broad though with a mouthfilling but balanced feel. Nice but perhaps in an akward stage?
After giving away a bottle thru a charity to a person who subsequently claimed it was oxidized, my wife and I felt compelled to try a bottle. It was delightful. A very slight initial funk blew off and revealed a complex, full-bodied wine with tremendous concentration, presence and richness - nothing defective at all, just the pure drinking pleasure one would expect from the make and vintage. I look forward to our remaining bottles over the next 2-3 years.
