Sadly, our last bottle of this vintage, my personal opinion: This beast of a wine is at peak. This is singularly the best California Pinot I have ever tasted. No flaws. No sediment. Moderate rim variation. No flaws. No sediment. Amazing old world nose. This baby is full of dirt and earth. You nose this wine and you think: This is dirt. No tannin. No acid. Medium alcohol. Long finish. Just simply amazing. At peak, and, perfectly drinkable. Paired perfectly with twice smoked ham. Ready to drink, and, enjoy.
I was disappointed with this bottle. A bit flabby, overextracted and sweet drinking next to an 07 DuMol Finn and an 09 Occidental at Christmas Eve dinner. Saved some for today and hope it is better organized and refined after a night in the bottle.
This has evolved considerably since my previous bottle. I drank this over two days, with each day being significantly different. Day 1: decanted for 2 hrs. This came across as a "typical" NoCal pinot, showing bright cherry, red licorice, candied violets, and just a hint of earth. Mrs. Haggis liked it so much that she said she could drink it every night. OK....well, that will put me in the poor house! On Day 2, it was much weightier. The fruit was darker, and earth, black fruit, and spice was much more evident. Day 2 was borderline outstanding. Give this a LONG decant or hold for a few more years.
