  • (100% Ribolla Gialla. 92 vvPunkte

  • Kept meaning to open this recently.

Very dark orange, I guess from the amphora. A little cheesy on the nose, but I liked it. I did get a little sherry too. Paired well with food and actually got better throughout the two hours we drank it. Was expecting a little more and maybe this was better a few years ago.....Sweet oxidized flavors when paired with certain cheeses.

  • Drunk with smoked salmon. I have had a Gravner Anfora Breg once before, so knew roughly what to expect. It is not your typical wine.

Colour of glittering bronzed apricot. Quite a restrained nose with some hints of dried stone fruits but mainly minerals, minerals and minerals. No sherry-like tones at all; just wave after wave of complex stoney flavours that just go on and on. This is bone dry. Drinking this is a very different experience to your typical (white) wine. I guess it's a bit of a Marmite type of wine - some will love the style, others won't. I wasn't ready the first time I drank an Anfora wine, but this time I was, and I get it. I think it is a brilliant wine. It has subtlety, great complexity and huge length. It makes you question everything about your average Ribolla. This is a tightrope walker of a wine - grace and poise with risk, and you just wonder how it maintains such impeccable balance!!.

It is a triumph of a wine, made by a very skilled wine maker and a privilege to have been able to enjoy it. This bottle was drinking perfectly.

  • This is Ribolla and aged like such. Tannins now faded, fruit faded. A pleasant enough quaff. with rock shrimp risotto. The pairing is good. Interesting to see this wine at this stage of its life.

  • Mivvy Back in Town: Marmalade, truffle, mandarin, lemon and toast - the nose has a subtlety to it that I didn't expect. The palate is stylish as well, with grip and good texture, but also plenty of funky interest - a good mix of orange fruit and structure. Feels like it strikes a good balance between the natural and more conventional wine worlds.

(Gravner Ribolla Anfora, Venezia Giulia IGT) Deep-orange-colored, with exotic aromas of cantaloupe, Bosc pear, and chestnut. Fairly full-bodied, with very good concentration, it has a beautifully defined midpalate and a lengthy finish. It’s still tightly packed, needing seven to 10 years to round out.
