Festa del Piemonte: Gala Dinner (The Pool in NYC): Whenever I have these wines I think of this amazing visit we had with Giacamo a few years ago popping bottles and talking about life and wine and it's so lovely to relive the memory. This is good. It's drinking nicely. Definitely has the age. For my tastes it's in the drink up phase I think.

Cherry juice... lots and lots of cherry juice. There's also a healthy dose of cedar and old leather. It took almost two hours for the wine to "wake up" but it was worth the wait.
It's obviously past its prime but still a very worthy wine to bring to dinner with friends who appreciate the finesse & complexities of such a wine.

A 40-Year Retrospective on 1978's (Los Olivos, CA): Remarkably fresh and nuanced, with a nose of dusty red fruit, dried flowers and soy. Somewhat tart on the palate, with good acidity and an interesting iron flavor. Some minerality on the long finish.

Gala Dinner at La Festa del Piemonte (The Pool Restaurant, NYC): [Brought over by Josh Leader.] Beautiful, ripe cherries. Elegant and long. Just a gorgeous wine at its peak.
