Fairly dark, touch of a shift toward some brown, I get a bit of dried spice on the nose, along with earthy dried leaves; wonderful medium intensity, fairly dark fruited, spices, strong acidity, and very fine tannins, but the wine balances mostly on its acidity and spicy fruit. Some warm vintages can be described as solar, or warm; this wine could almost be described as cool. In a wonderful place, still very youthful but far enough along to be nicely on its drinking plateau. This much acidity makes me think it may be better to consume bottles over the next decade, and not risk the acid outliving the fruit, but I’ve been known to be wrong lol.

Nick's 2008 Burgundies (Noizé, London): Medium dark red, identical to the Clos de la Marechale. The nose is sensational, strawberry compote and creme brulee. Stunning balance and poise on the palate, rich but still a sense of calm and clarity. This is high-toned wine, everything about it that little bit amplified, and I liked it very much. My favourite red of the evening that can't quite touch the Puligny for sheer weight of class.

Nick A's 2008 Burgundy Horizontal (Table B) (Noizé, London): Redcurrant cordial and shitake tea nose here on pouring. Later notes of chestnut brazier with some sweet bacon and a couple of drops of pineapple juice. Palate rich and long with a banana leaf sweetness. Very fine.

Slight bricking ruby color. Took about an hour to open up. Dark cherry, black tea, earth, spice. Very slightly raisiny. Quite energetic. Long finish. Not sure it will improve with more cellar time. Well done for this vintage but not my favorite MG Chaignots.

Still quite primary with lots of polished and glossy fruit, plenty of spice and just a hint of NSG rusticity.
