Domestic Rhones (David's House - Washington, DC): Aromas of dark plums, fig, tobacco, soil and dried roses. Fine tannins and medium acid, this wine feels like glycerin on the palate. The fig, date, caramel and smoke flavors are deep and brooding. A dense and serious syrah that still has years ahead of it. I was surprised this was from 2001. If tasted blind I would've guessed 2006 or 2007.

Dark and densely particulate, almost a distillation of powdered spice, cassis, with leather and tobacco tones on the finish. Big and chewy, but not distorted or too fruit forward, thoughtful and blending well with food or to sip. A tongue coater.

15th Annual Lyon 10 Year Retrospective (Chez Lyon in Eugene, OR): An obvious ringer in a blind flight of CdP's. The oak gave it away along w/ New World fruit. Blackberry, blueberry, plum, and some pepper on the palate. 90pts on day 2.

Big, dense Cali Syrah. A touch hot at first, but time in the glass resolved the heat and accentuated the fruit. Nice.

Lovely wine, right out of the traditional B&H mold. Great fruit, complexity, some alcohol, and just a joyous celebration of syrah.
