At home with friends to welcome our exchange student from Colmar. Splash decanted, open for about 20 minutes, drank over 2 hours. paired with mushroom and red pepper risotto and beef.
Light ruby color. Nose was earth, dried red fruits, black tea. Palate was dusted raspberry, cherry, currant, mushrooms and earth notes. Palate more fresh than the nose. Palate was a bit on the dried side, suggesting this may be past its peak.
Paired well with the food, would drink this sooner rather than later if you have it.

Initially earthy noise became increasingly berried and port-like while open. Raisins, plum and dried fruit, a little tobacco. Palate suggests I left this too long. Masses of structure still but not much fruit, but still enough to enjoy. More blackcurrant and died fruit, with an earthy and increasingly mushroomy finish. Still long. Drink up and with food.

Italian Night with the Evans (Our house): Light ruby color; a little bricking. Notes of dusty red fruit, tea leaf and rose petals. Nice acidity with cherry and red fruit flavors.

Light ruby color. Aromas of black tea leaf, red fruit and dried herbs. A bit lean and acidic. Flavors of red fruit and dried leaves; tart. On the downward slope.

Smoky and mushroomy on the nose lacking primary fruit. Fresher in palate showing both power and elegance. Tertiary and mellow wine.
